Objective: To investigate the impact of receptive vocabulary level on theory of mind and the mediating role of narrative competence in such relationship in deaf children. Methods: Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, Wordless picture book narrative task and standard false belief tasks were used to test 110 deaf children aged 4 to 7. Results: ①Both receptive vocabulary level and narrative competence were positively correlated to theory of mind. ②Receptive vocabulary level significantly predicted theory of mind. Narrative competence mediated the relationship between receptive vocabulary level and narrative competence. Conclusion: Deaf children's receptive vocabulary level affected deaf children's theory of mind through narrative competence.
