Objective:The aim was to examine the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of Childhood Executive Functioning Inventory(CHEXI) among Chinese preschoolers. Methods:Participants were 917 preschool children(Mage=4.75 years, SD=1.10 years, 485 boys) recruited from 6 public kindergartens in Shanghai. Children's mothers completed CHEXI and the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire. Four months later, a subsample completed CHEXI again. Results:The Chinese preschool sample demonstrated a three-factor model(χ2=918, df=249, χ2/df=3.69, P<0.001, CFI=0.91, GFI=0.92, RMSEA=0.05). Three subscales demonstrated acceptable internal reliability(0.71-0.89), and test-retest reliability(0.60-0.69) during a four-month interval among a small subsample. Three components of executive function significantly correlat-ed with prosocial behavior, hyperactivity/inattention, and emotional symptoms(rs=0.18-0.49, P<0.001). Conclusion:CHEXI has acceptable reliability and validity among Chinese preschool children.
